CLARINET MOUTHPIECES..... Usually the mouthpiece that comes with a rental instrument is generic.
Here is an article that goes into the complexity of the mouthpiece, reed and ligature choices when playing on clarinet.

To get a better sound on their instruments, I first step give students a different type of reed to play on.
Then, since it is a rental, the store you are renting from might be willing to give you a different mouthpiece for free.
If not, here is the mouthpiece I would recommend. https://www.amazon.com/Clark-Fobes-Student-Clarinet-Mouthpiece/dp/B0002HLKKK
The ligature, that holds the reed on, will work on this mouthpiece as well.
Some players like to get leather ligatures like this: https://www.amazon.com/Rovner-1R-Clarinet-Ligature/dp/B0002F4YQY/ref=pd_bxgy_267_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0002F4YQY&pd_rd_r=a18a1f9a-2a73-11e9-8f40-c17d5812f01a&pd_rd_w=VofLR&pd_rd_wg=COc3U&pf_rd_p=6725dbd6-9917-451d-beba-16af7874e407&pf_rd_r=S9FPD53G08D6N5G8G4ST&psc=1&refRID=S9FPD53G08D6N5G8G4ST
Students don't NEED a new mouthpiece and this is not required; it will help them get a better response and control of their sound.
FLUTE PLAYERS who may be struggling to hold the flute or play without it slipping should read this. If you are interested in trying any of these accessories, let me know!
