What does it mean to be a member of the percussion section of the band?
Drummers who have completed the 3 band prep pages are invited to play in the band which rehearses on Wednesdays before school (at Bryan School this year, Merritt School next year). Students will be given an opportunity to play various percussion instruments (tambourine, crash cymbals, temple blocks, etc.) and the snare and bass drum. There is only one part per instrument per song, so there will be some songs your child does not play in. If there is not a written part, I encourage students to try improvising and adding another instrument the composer did not include, and find ways to be more involved.
