SEPT 12 updates
Welcome back!!! To my returning students: I hope to get started with regular weekly lessons Sept 18th-20th (half week is tough to start) and the following week (Sept. 25-29th) all lessons will be taking place Monday-Friday. We are still working out logistics of where lessons will take place at Merritt School, and which days I will be at each school. Thanks for your patience!!
Today was our first time combining some members of the Silver Band with the Gold Band. It is normal to feel overwhelmed during rehearsal, just keep listening and try to find your way back into the music!
Emilie - First time playing snare; sounded great! It won't be perfect every time, and just keep that highlighter handy to circle parts that are giving you trouble.
*There is way too much talking, and with Ms. Kim's assistance, during future rehearsals you will be asked to put your instrument away and observe rehearsal if you are talking while I am speaking.
ALL OF YOUR PLAYED THROUGH TWO SONGS! THAT IS AMAZING!!
I am working on finding more music stands; thank you to those who shared with two people, and for our saxophone players who held their music on their knees. While it's very commendable for you to find a way to make it work, we will have enough stands at our next rehearsal so you can play more comfortably.
***I can't TUNE string instruments at 7:45 when rehearsal begins. Please arrive at 7:30 if you need tuning (this means checking your instrument on Tuesday nights). The same goes with stuck trumpet valves or trombone slides. Our time is very limited please help me out with this!
Notes for me: xylophone and stand for snare drum
MISSING from rehearsal:
Ryan C. not finished
While many of us are working on band and orchestra music, it is also good to take a break and play a song that you really enjoy. Check back under the "Just For Fun" section for more music to try out on your own. I will also create a form you can fill in for more song suggestions!
With Talent Shows coming up in the Spring, maybe you and a few friends would like to try a song together on your own!
First Silver Band practice takes place tomorrow; I can't wait to finally hear us play together, and find out how well we can play with the Gold Band at our next rehearsal!
Several Gold Band members completed their first two songs! I'm very proud of how well you practiced "The Tempest" and "Slides Rule" - I will be emailing you the next song to work on over the weekend!
1. Caleb Chan
2. Dan Davidov
3. Jason Ko
I've decided to create a spreadsheet to track your progress which will be posted. So many students practicing their parts I can't keep up with my lists :)
New Silver Band members!
Andrew K - trumpet, George K - trombone, Afik M - trombone, Isabella P - trombone, Khushbu S - trombone, Charles P - trombone, I will add more over the weekend
Isabella K and Joanna R - new music is hanging on the door of the basement since I did not see you today.
String players in band - VIOLIN parts will be emailed home this weekend. I had to write a violin part for Tempest, and the Slides Rule part is pretty simple. Orchestra music is more difficult so make sure you have Classic Bits and Pieces and Cellos Ole, in addition to Can Can
to be continued.....dinner time finally!
What better way for parents to see what their children see during lessons? Photos of weekly announcements will be posted here.
i misspelled Caesura. it is NOT spelled seizura. As long as you know, railroad track symbol written before the past note of Shepherd

Please read this weekly. I hope to find this as a way of communicating other than email, regarding lesson attendance, what music has been given out, and how your child can get the music if they missed a lesson.
I am hoping by beginning a weekly blog, this will save me from sending individual emails, letters home, carrying music between schools if a students misses a lesson, etc. I will be posting weekly a summary of lessons, what we did in class, and if your child missed their lesson, where to come to get the new music, and how to make up a lesson. Feel free to subscribe by clicking on the RSS feed to the right, if you would like to be notified when a post is made. Thank you for those who signed up for the REMIND system; that is still the easiest way for me to communicate but perhaps this will help as well.
